September Reset? Or… Maybe Not!

September is often called the “second New Year.” The kids head back to school, routines return, and mums everywhere get that tiny taste of freedom again. The coffee is hot, the house is quiet, and the possibilities feel endless.

This year was no different. The children had their first day back at school and preschool. And I, in my own way, had my first day back too. I threw myself into the joy of routine. The washing pile was conquered, emails were replied to, invoices were paid, bookkeeping brought up to date. I even managed to squeeze in football training, cook dinner, and prep the lunchboxes for day two. By the time evening rolled around, I was feeling gloriously smug — efficient, organised, and ready to reward myself with a well-earned cuppa and a biscuit.

It was 9pm. Peace.

Except… not quite.

From upstairs came the unmistakable sound no parent wants to hear: the gut-wrenching heave of a child being sick. My middle son had picked up a sickness bug. One day. One single day back at school, and my carefully laid plans for the rest of the week were gone in a heartbeat.

Now, this is where things could have unravelled. In another life, I’d be frantically texting colleagues, emailing managers, or worrying about how to juggle deadlines with looking after an unwell child. But this time was different. Because the boss? That’s me.

As the co-founder of Baby Sparks Sensory, I’ve built a lifestyle that gives me the flexibility to put family first. I didn’t need permission, I didn’t need to apologise, and I didn’t need to choose between being a good mum and being good at my job. I could simply shift my plans, look after my son, and trust that work would wait until tomorrow, or as it transpired, the day after!

And that’s exactly what Baby Sparks franchising offers:

  • Flexibility – work around your family, not the other way round

  • Purpose – spend your working hours engaging little minds and supporting parents

  • Community – join a network of like-minded mums who get it

  • Empowerment – build a business that’s truly yours, with the support of a proven brand

Always putting you first
Always putting you first

The truth is, parenthood will never run like clockwork. September resets are lovely in theory, but real life is messy, unpredictable and often interrupted by sickness bugs! What matters is having a career that bends with those moments, not one that breaks you under the pressure.

If you’re looking for a new beginning this autumn, maybe it’s time to think about a different kind of reset, one where you’re in control, family comes first, and your work makes a real impact in your community.
